Painted Lady Inspiration

Painted Lady on Buddleia

This has been a great year for Painted Ladies, this one is feeding voraciously on our buddleia, right in the centre of Bristol. It could be feeding up ready for a huge journey non-stop to N Africa, or perhaps this one will lay a batch of eggs and the next generation make the journey - I think it depends on the weather. Plants like this are vital for high energy food to keep it going. We think of butterflies as delicate little wisps but some are as tough as old boots- they have to be. I find it hard to imagine a butterfly flying over the ocean.
