Winter Bird Song

Here is my article published last week in The Tablet (Sept 29th) on the beauty of winter birdsong.  Now the migrants are leaving, we are left with our own residents and their songs can be beautiful.

Winter Birds

I was walking with our dog on Bristol Downs recently and stopped transfixed underneath a large lime tree.  It was literally singing.  A couple of other dog walkers stopped too.  The tree still had leaves and the birds were very difficult to see but the tree rang with music - it was magical.  After a while a cloud of starlings rose and flew off.  It won't be long before the mass roosts start on the Somerset Levels.
